Although hearsay, the locals who have lived or worked in the area all say "that nobody has ever seen any dredging or any mining activity on the Claim--which suggest that very little work has been done on this "claimed" stretch of River since the days of the 'O' Timers? It is also interesting to note that Siskiyou County ranked first for Northern California Counties in the production of placer gold and that the Salmon River Mining Districts were by far the the richest and most productive. Salmon River gold has always had the distinction of of producing course gold. A couple summers ago, a fairly significant layer of flood gold was discovered a few miles up river, documented by two test holes punched in the shallow gravel by 5 inch dredges, which purportedly yielded 3.25 ounces of gold in one test hole and over 7.00 ounces of gold in the other. Photo's of these dredge holes were published upon the "New 49ers" web site and they certainly didn't look to be very big or very deep.
A number of active, small scale miner-dredgers in the area have postulated that perhaps this discovered flood layer is much more homogenous in nature then typically found in an auriferous--primary watershed? This may suggest a realistic potential that this highly anomalous "flood layer of gold bearing gravel" may represent exceptional continuity along its geometry of strike, dip and breadth. If this should prove to be the case, then further extrapolation may additionally suggest that the size and magnitude of any discovered economic horizon within the gravel's, may allow for straightforward delineation and mining of these potentially large sized paystreaks.
